I bought this for freediving. It seemed like it would make it easier to get down and move around with less oxygen expenditure, thus extending my dive time. But it turns out that controlling it is much harder than I expected, with the result that what I gain in not having to expend energy to swim, I lose expending energy in the struggle to control my arm to aim the scooter where I want to go.

I will add that my dive buddy, who is stronger than I am, did not have the same problem I did, so you might find it easier to use than I did.

In ultra-high mode, the scooter is extremely powerful, and in regular high mode it's got a fair amount of power. Low and medium are very weak. I did not use it long enough to drain the battery so I cannot comment on battery life.

I missed the return window so I'll probably sell it used.

Update: After posting this review, I was contacted by the maker, Waydoo, offering me a full refund. They emailed me a pre-paid shipping label for the return, and nine days after I shipped it my credit card showed a full refund. Considering that there was nothing wrong with the Subnado (I am just not strong enough to control it comfortably), and that it was well past any reasonable trial period, this is truly excellent customer service, I am increasing my rating to 4 stars.

Very easy to use once you get the hang of the number of clicks for increased speed. Lots of underwater fun. Easy to assemble, operate, and maintain. Airport TSA personnel were confused (never saw them before), but after explaining and showing how used, it went through with no other issue after scanning. Not overly heavy for transporting (2) in a backpack. Definitely want to go on vacation again to use them.

In super-boost mode (3x clicks), this thing will move water and haul you around with gusto!

But, it can't maintain that level of thrust for very long. After just five to ten minutes of fun, it gives up and falls back to boost (2x clicks) at most--and there it's already feeling pretty weak. Another 5-10 minutes later and it's down to regular mode (1x click) and it's more a suggestion than a tug.

With the attachment package I had no trouble sticking this on a paddleboard, and the controls were well chosen--with a caveat that it's easy to get sand in the little triggers. I'd have preferred a better-sealed activation mechanism.

Best is, I think, to take this underwater for scuba. In that environment even the regular 1x speed would probably be just great for tooling around. At the surface you really want 2x or 3x boost, and for those the battery just feels a little underpowered.

    Overall, a solid 4/5.

This was a fun product for a while but after about two months of use in the pool it no longer works. It won’t take a charge. No lights so I guess it’s dead. The warranty says one year on the unit but they don’t seem to be supporting that. So that was a bit of a waste of money. Bought in December and was dead by August. We started using it in June. So it worked for about three months.

Update: the company reached out to me when I wrote this review. That made me go back and cycle the power switch while plugged into the wall. The battery woke up and started charging again! I don’t know what was doing wrong but I was glad they reached out and supported the unit. Good job.

If you intend to use this scooter for snorkeling in the ocean, plan on purchasing two, along with the twin engine handle bracket. I initially purchased one of these scooters, and while it was fun to use in the pool, it was not nearly powerful enough to drag me, a grown man, through the ocean at any speed greater than I could swim myself. Now that I have two, with the dual twin engine handle, I'm able to move with good speed, even against the waves. I'm also able to point the scooter downward and have it pull me under the water and along the bottom.

This ability to move effortlessly at speed while submerged is a game-changer for snorkeling. I can get much closer to the coral and fish, and because I'm not actively swimming, I can hold my breath and stay submerged for 30-60 seconds or longer, enough time to feel like I'm part of the environment. This is very different from taking a breath and trying to swim down, an intense aerobic activity that forces your body to use its stored oxygen much faster.

Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. Is it worth $1k for two scooters and the necessary hardware? I'm not sure, but it is a blast to use, and definitely enhances snorkeling, allowing you to go faster and see more.

A few points of caution when using the scooter to snorkel. First, it is only safe to use this produce when visibility is excellent, and you can see at least 10-20 feet clearly. You do not want to be zooming through the murk and suddenly come into contact with a rock, a boat hull, or someone's legs. Second, it would be very easy, when allowing the scooter to pull you along the bottom, to wind up 40-plus feet deep, without realizing it. If you go deeper than intended, and especially if you use the scooter to shoot back up to the surface, you could give yourself a mild case of the bends. You have to careful to monitor your depth when using this scooter, as it its very easy to lose track. Finally, you need to closely monitor the battery usage by periodically tipping the scooters up and looking at the lights on the front ends. If you run out of battery while far away from shore, you will have to drag the scooter along while swimming with one hand, a dicey proposition for most people, especially in waves or currents.

My subnado stopped working under the warranty period. Company is in China and had me send a number of videos of it not working. The concluded it was my fault and refused the repair. They were just looking for an excuse not to honor warranty.
Update: after the Amazon review I was contacted and the SALES staff reviewed the videos I sent and agreed to send me a new one. It should not take a bad review to admit there is a defect.

My husband and I used these while snorkeling in Key West. I really like the handle mount, my husband wants to change to arm mount next time.
It’s very easy to use, the wrist tether was very secure.
I weigh 135lbs. It seemed to get me through the water pretty well, a little kicking with it makes a huge difference. I would consider it more of an assitive device than anything.
For my fluffier friends, I’d recommend a double set up, especially if you’ll be in the water for an extensive amount of time and need that helpful boost.
I highly recommend practicing in a pool before a trip to the ocean, sort out how you will hold it, learn it and your combined limits.
These would be super fun for kids to play with, under supervision of course.
I would offer the 5th star if it had a little more oomph.

Ok , Again We love it !! The device is great . But Be Careful , Its not a Toy !! And ladies watch your hair . Even if you are not using it . Check out our pics . Our daughter wasn't even using the Scooter she was just swimming by and the scooter sucked in her hair . Luckily we all acted quickly but it could have been a problem if the user would have just let go . Probably needs a little design modification to block hair or auto shutoff . Just wanted to share this for safety . The product itself is just what we were looking for . my only complaint , other than the hair is the difficulty of getting to the boost levels . Probably would rather another way to activate that .
